We are just over one week away from the first proper PPV event from NXT 2.0. Gone is the Takeover branding, but here to stay was WarGames. For the fifth year in a row, teams will enter the massive double ringed cage for an all out war, but for the first time ever – Johnny Gargano has joined the mix. However, he knocks the last thing off his NXT bucket list – could he be on his way out from WWE altogether?
Johnny Gargano Has Done It All In WWE NXT – And His Contract Is Nearly Up
Right now, Gargano is nearing the end of his deal with WWE. He’s done it all on the NXT brand, being the first triple crown champion in the brand’s history – and there isn’t much of a future for him on the main roster, as proven by a lack of success for other cruiserweight sized wrestlers.
His deal would have actually been up after the latest episode of NXT, but much like Adam Cole before him, he signed a quick contract extension to finish up business in NXT. It was a one week deal, which means that after the PPV – Gargano is a free agent. WWE will likely do their best to keep him around, but if they can’t reach an agreement – he can show up anywhere he pleases the next day if he wants.
Is Gargano Going To Become Elite?
With Gargano potentially leaving WWE, we can expect him to be the latest big name to join the AEW roster. They have carefully chosen the talent to pick from WWE, but considering the classic matches he had with Adam Cole & Andrade El Idolo? AEW would be foolish to not make an offer to Gargano. He wrestles the style that AEW fans love to see, and putting him against names like Hangman Page & Bryan Danielson would create instant classics.
There is an outside chance that he sticks around in WWE. His wife, Candice LeRae is with the company, but is out of the ring and off TV due to being pregnant. Her links to WWE are still tight contract wise, which could be enough to have Gargano stick around in NXT 2.0 as a veteran talent.
