Meghan Markle has once again vocalised her support for parents being entitled to paid parental leave.
Meghan Markle Demands Paid Parental Leave By Referring To It As A ‘Humanitarian Issue’
Meghan, for her part, has been accused of meddling into US politics ever since she came out with this stance publicly. She had written a letter to House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi in order to get her to consider this initiative.
In response, some felt that Meghan was using her Royal title for undue influence. And yet, Meghan believes that this issue goes beyond party politics.
During an interview with ‘The New York Times DealBook Online Summit’, Meghan said: “I think this is one of those issues that is not red or blue.
“We can all agree that people need support certainly when they’ve just had a child. Paid leave, from my standpoint, is just a humanitarian issue.”
The primary reason why Meghan feel this way is because she knows what it is like to bring up children in uncertain times. After all, she is the mother of two children and has given birth during the pandemic.
Therefore, she fully understands what it is like to juggle between child care duties and work-related matters. In this way, any extra governmental support is only going to help parents.
She added: “To come back and now be a mother of two and to see that the US is one of only six countries in the entire world that doesn’t offer any form of national paid leave just didn’t make sense.”
As a consequence, Meghan is hoping that this would allow women to leave their mark in the workplace and be a success. As a result, they would not be forced to choose between whether they should have children or seek out a career.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “There’s nothing wrong with talking about a woman’s success or her ambition or her financial prowess.”
Meghan is not going to go quietly, and if she manages to influence the policymakers in passing such an initiative, then it will show that she does have a lot of influence. As for now, she will have to do a lot more to convince people.
