American actor Nestor Carbonell, who is known for being on the hit TV show ‘The Morning Show,’ has spoken on how his character on the series is a perfect model for cancel culture.
American Actor Nestor Carbonell Compares His Character ‘Yanko Flores’ As A Model For Cancel Culture
On current reflection, the primary target for cancel culture seems to be Travis Scott. His concert, Astroworld in Houston, led to the death of a reported eight people and injured many others.
This has led to lawsuits being filed against the singer on the grounds that he did not do enough to ensure that his fans were safe. And this is something that Nestor is fully aware of given the acting roles he has taken on during his time.
Nestor, for his part, is known for playing Yanko Flores who is a weather specialist on ‘The Morning Show.’ But given that his character ends up getting cancelled on the second season following a gaffe, Nestor had a lot to say on the matter.
In summary, Yanko became a victim of cancel culture after he had made a broadcast about the famous Groundhog Day Celebration.
But given that he had referred to the animal as his ‘spirit animal’, he was bashed for what his critics believed to be a mocking of the Groundhog Day celebration.
Therefore, he had been asked to give his opinion on whether he felt any sympathy towards those who may end up suffering from cancel culture in real life.
During an interview with TMZ, he said: “Well, you’d think [I would have sympathy.] I mean, what he [Yanko] was cancelled for was kind of absurd which is sort of the point, yeah.”
With Nestor being aware of what cancel culture can do, at least from a fictional point of view, he was asked to address whether he thinks the concept has gone too far.
And in line with what many others are feeling at the moment, he agreed in the affirmative. He added: “It really has [gotten out of control.”
Nestor will be hoping that going forward, the only time that he experiences cancel culture is in a fictional setting, just as he is doing now.
