When it comes to talents that were in the mix of WWE during and after the Invasion storyline, The Blue Meanie falls by the wayside. The most notable thing he did in WWE was get beaten up and bloodied by JBL during a brawl segment, and that led to one of the worst chair shots in WWE from Stevie Richards to JBL as a receipt. A comedy heavy character like Blue Meanie was never a great fit for WWE, and they agreed when the released him in 2000 – but not before messing up a major chance he had.
Blue Meanie Was Set To Be In A New Game Based Off Pepsi-Man
After seeing Danhausen share a sign from AEW Rampage saying Pepsi-Man, which was made in reference to CM Punk ? Blue Meanie had a story to tell. Back in 1999, video game developer KID Games created the now cult classic game titled Pepsiman. It’s a simple auto-runner type game where you play as Pepsiman, who is just trying to solve pepsi related issues. The game was only released in Japan. There was a hole pepsiman character for ads in the region, which the game was based on. However, it might have been used as the base of a Blue Meanie game in the United States. Atleast, if WWE didn’t stop things early on.
Blue Meanie would share some information on this and how WWE put an end to plans early, saying the following.
“True Story. In 2000 I had been approached about doing a video game based on the Blue Meanie that would be an American version of a Japanese game called Pepsi Man. I was all set to do it and was told by WWF I couldn’t. I was released a couple months later.”
The Game Never Entered Development
He’d follow up with more information after being asked by a fan if development was started.
“Nah. It was early talks. Had a proposal sent to me. That’s as far as it went. Once I was told I couldn’t that was that.”
There is zero guarantee this would have changed the career of Blue Meanie in any way, but considering WWE wasn’t exactly using him and then cut his contract months later? It wouldn’t have hurt. Considering auto-runner games blew up around the iPhone era of games with names like Temple Run, it might have been able to catch on and kick things off early.
As for Blue Meanie? He recently showed up as a manager to fellow ECW alumni Crowbar who made his AEW debut on an episode of Dark: Elevation. There’s always a chance he could pop up as a guest on future shows, but likely nothing longterm. As for video games, you can play as Blue Meanie in RetroMania Wrestling.
