Khamzat Chimaev, a rising star in the UFC welterweight division, has called out not one but two Paul brothers via Twitter.
Chimaev posted a picture of both Jake and Logan Paul, with the caption “I can smash this guys same night BOXING”.
Khamzat Chimaev Promises to “Smash” Both Paul Brothers in One Night
Jake and Logan Paul, most famous for their work on YouTube, pranks, and occasional Disney Channel shows, have made an abrupt about-face into boxing in recent years. Today, the pair are among the most talked-about boxers in the world, often turning their fights into massive events.
Spectacle seems to matter more than substance when it comes to the social-media-savvy brothers Paul. Jake Paul has amassed a 4-0 record compiled against people who are not boxers, including Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. His brother Logan fought Floyd Mayweather earlier this year in a largely uneventful exhibition match.
Khamzat Chimaev, on the other hand, is one of the most widely hyped fighters in the UFC today. After a blistering 2020, in which he delivered a series of stunning finishes in rapid succession, including two fights in ten days, he was sidelined by a bout of COVID-19. Although he was out of the Octagon for about a year, upon his return he showed no signs of ring rust, effortlessly dispatching Li Jingliang at UFC 267.
Chimaev isn’t quite a bit enough name yet to take on either Paul, let alone both, but he may well be looking at a bright future in combat sports. Chimaev’s remarkable record is echoed by his remarkable ambitions to run through the entire welterweight division.
The 170-pound division is currently dominated by Kamaru Usman, widely considered the finest pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. Some consider Khamzat the man who will finally depose the Nigerian Nightmare. If he can do that, perhaps Khamzat will have the necessary infamy to step into the boxing ring with the YouTube brothers.
In the meantime, Jake Paul is set to take on world heavyweight champ Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy. Tommy Fury fought on the undercard of Jake Paul’s bout against Tyron Woodley, and has parlayed his amateur boxing career and famous name into a lucrative reality TV stint.
Fury claims he’s still a fighter at heart and has promised to dispatch Paul in the boxing ring, but Jake Paul has shocked fight fans before.
