FTR have been determined to take The Lucha Bros out, and become the first ever two time AEW World Tag Team Champions. They have beaten them for the AAA Tag Team Championships, retained those belts during a ladder match in Mexico, and defeated Penta El Zero Miedo & PAC on Rampage last week. FTR are just one win away from AEW history, but are Lucha Bros more dangerous with their backs against the walls?
Rey Fenix Gets Lured Into FTR Territory
Harwood would kick things off with Rey Fenix, able to quickly take him down. The mat game of Lucha Bros is good, but they’re better when they get moving. Fenix would block the two on one attack of FTR with a huge headscissor before tagging Penta into the match. Harwood was taken down, and Fenix came off his brother’s shoulders for a two count.
Penta would take his glove off, and Wheeler tried to rush him – only to be rolled up for a two count. Wheeler was thrown the glove, and then caught off guard with a big thrust kick. Harwood would get the blind tag, with Penta able to get Fenix in as well. Fenix took things outside and quickly would regret this, being slammed back first onto the ring apron.
Back in the ring, Harwood distracted the referee as Wheeler & Tully Blanchard choked Fenix on the ropes. FTR followed up with a combo leg drop, before Fenix was able to catch Harwood with a huge frankensteiner to prompt a double down. Fenix was unable to make the tag to Penta, while FTR remained firmly in control of the match.
Lucha Bros Weather The Storm, Show Cash Wheeler The Fear Factor
After weathering the two on one assault, including some hard stomps to the head – Fenix went Ricky to Robert to get Penta in. Penta came in with some fire, nailing some sling blades and a huge backstabber in the corner – before dropping Wheeler on his head with the Made In Japan for a two count. Fenix was tagged in for the Fear Factor, and was stopped by Tully who took a punch to the face.
FTR would take some fast kicks from Fenix, before ending up in a slingshot Liger Bomb for a two count. Wheeler tried to use the AAA Tag Team Championship to knock Fenix out, but instead we’d see Harwood take it. Wheeler took a kick to the face, and Harwood just blocked the massive frog splash that would have ended this! The belt shot only got a two count, with Fenix staying in the fight.
FTR would nail Big Rig out of the corner, but Penta dove into the ring to break the pinfall up. All four men would take the ring, and shots were exchanged. Fenix nailed a cutter, and Wheeler got the Gory Bomb on Fenix. Wheeler wanted the piledriver on Penta, but he was unable to get control – and got spiked with Fear Factor for the deciding fall!
Despite a difficult crowd, Lucha Bros & FTR managed to have their best match yet with this clash. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** 1/4)
