Tony Nese has made quite an impression on AEW owner Tony Khan, and ahead of tonight’s match with Sammy Guevara? His signing to AEW was officially announced. Now a member of the AEW roster, the premiere athlete has all the more reason to go all out to claim the TNT Championship – and put himself on marquees to properly kick off this new stage of his career. A 4-0 record is impressive, but now he gets a real test.
Sammy Guevara Comes In Hurt
Guevara started this match hot, remembering the recent cheap shot from Nese. Nese would take him down and waste a moment taunting before taking a corkscrew dropkick to the jaw. Guevara still had his ribs tapped after the street fight at Full Gear, but that didn’t stop him from following up with a dive to the outside.
Nese would try to send Guevara into the steel steps, but met the steel himself. Guevara would take Nese into the barricade next, before sending him into the ring and climbing up top and being hung up on the top rope. Nese kicked him off and onto his shoulders for a gutbuster, getting a two count.
The hotshot and double jump moonsault would get Nese a two count, with him nailing the knees instead of the ribs. Guevara would be thrown hard into the corner, but he’d fire back with a big slap. Nese blocked a Sunset Flip and nailed the spinning heel kick before applying a tight waist lock in the middle of the ring.
Tony Nese Takes First AEW Loss
Guevara fought free, only to be shut down right into a side headlock. Against all odds, he’d get out, and just end up in a single leg crab in the middle of the ring. Guevara kicked his way free and hit some clubbing lariats before catching Nese in the corner with an enziguri and double jump cutter for a two count.
GTH was blocked back into a single leg crab from Nese, with his knee on the injured ribs. Guevara countered into a rollup for two, before escaping a Pumphanle Bomb to nail a Spanish Fly for two. Nese headed to the outside, for Guevara to nail a huge Asai Moonsault.
Back in the ring, Nese blocked a springboard with a palm strike, sending Guevara crashing to the floor, before a Fosbury Flop & 450 Splash in the ring for a two count. Guevara would block the Running Nese and hit GTH for the win.
Match Rating: 3.5/5 (*** 1/2)
Ahead of her match with Thunder Rosa in the semi-finals of the TBS Championship tournament, Jade Cargill takes on her student Janai Kai. Kai grabbed a headlock before being thrown aside. Pump Kick, Jaded, and this one is done. She doesn’t get paid by the hour folks.
