We hear a lot about wrestlers and athletes in general playing and working through the pain of an injury so they don’t let the team down, and Bill Goldberg has reportedly been doing it for years with the same injury.
Goldberg has been a dominant force in professional wrestling for the last 20 or so years, and his part timer schedule helps to maintain him as an attraction to draw in more viewers.
But as we all know, injuries happen and it’s a question of timing for many as to when they want to get them taken care of.
Kevin Nash recently had his 37th surgery as he took to social media to proclaim “pro wrestling the gift that continues giving” that points out injuries and repairs don’t stop when someone leaves the business.
But hearing someone admit they’re injured takes on a whole new level of toughness, especially when they’re holding off on treatment to honor their deal.
The wait goes on
On December 28, Bill Goldberg was on the Pat McAfee show where he talked about his wrestling injuries, his football career, and what’s next for him.
During their conversation, Goldberg explained that he has a shoulder injury that needs to be operated on, but he wants to be ready if Vince McMahon and the WWE need him.
Special thanks to @the_wrestling_news2 for the following transcript.
“I felt pretty good. I won’t tell everybody on national radio or television that my shoulder has been destroyed for the last three years, five years, eight years, and I need surgery. I’ll get it when I’m done; I’ll get it when I’m finished. If Vince [McMahon] calls me tomorrow morning and says, ‘Goldberg, we need you in a month.’ What am I going to do if I get surgery? I’ll get it done when it’s time.”
This isn’t surprising given Goldberg’s past as football players in general didn’t want to come off the field and risk losing their job to someone else.
While the sport and world in general is different now, that mentality has kept him going and we have to commend him on being able to continue wrestling if his shoulder is that bad.
Sure, there’s a chance it’s not that painful but we doubt that’s the case. We just hope him putting it off doesn’t do more damage to him or injure anyone else while he’s fulfilling his commitment.
