According to the Los Angeles Times, during the hearing lawyers for Spears and her father went back and forth and it got messy at times but ultimately, Judge Penny had the final word and found in favor of the 40-year-old singer.

The whole thing has spiraled into a multiple-front war heading into the termination of the conservatorship involving lawyers, current and former conservators, and has also led to allegations of some pretty suspect practices by those formerly in charge of the 90s and 00s pop icon’s life.
In talking with the press about Jamie Spears’ failure to show up at two depositions, the singer’s lawyer On Wednesday, Britney Spears was given her full rights to handle her own business via a motion by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda J. Penny. said that he would push a motion to make him appear.
When the conservatorship was ended in November, Judge Penny placed temporary conservator and certified public accountant John Zabel in the primary role with Jodi Montgomery backing him. He was to handle some of the lingering business before the conservatorship was completely done in a more neutral party.
However, Jamie Spears’ legal team rolled out a filing that Zabel has made it his goal to attack and undermind the singer’s father. Countering this, the conservators said that Jamie Spears used the assigned security detail to surveil Britney Spears for years and even had a listening device in her bedroom.
At the end of the day, Britney Spears can now handle a lot of her own business such as signing contracts and the like. Still, there is some lingering accounting control that needs to be tied up. The main order of business remaining is the handling of Spears’ estate trust. That will be taken care of on January 19 when Zabel hands over control to Spears.
