When it comes to independent wrestling legends that have joined AEW – Colt Cabana often gets forgotten. He has never been a major contender in the company, and mostly just works tag team matches alongside The Dark Order. His biggest singles match of 2021 came against Bryan Danielson, which saw him shine before having his head kicked in. However, in ring success isn’t his end goal, as Cabana instead wants to be a top level producer.
Colt Cabana Wants To Be Known As World Champion Producer
While speaking with Chris Denker on the Into The Danger Zone podcast, Cabana would describe his goals in AEW as being the following.
“Obviously, professionally, I want to be the best I can be in AEW. I do some producing too. “As I get older, there are people like Arn Anderson, who is known as this legendary producer. Something like an agent for the wrestlers. It can be a whole new aspect of my career. ‘How do I become the best…’ maybe I’m not known as the world champion, but maybe I’m known as the world champion producer, which would only be appreciated by the wrestlers.”
You Don’t Get Five Star Matches Without Good Producers
Right now, Cabana is nowhere near being the world champion in AEW. But he’s a world travelled wrestler who has as much as experience as anyone else. Cabana has been everywhere and seen every style — making him the perfect name to put together matches with talent.
A good producer is able to make a match better with some careful planning, seeing the bigger picture while the talent might lose it. They can also help to veto bad ideas from talent, helping to protect them – and keep the shows on track. Names working in this role in AEW include legends like Dean Malenko & Jerry Lynn, while the likes of Fit Finlay gained tons of respect in the WWE locker room for this often thankless job.
