A TikTok video has gone viral after it showed a student, who had survived the Oxford High School shooting in Michigan, laughing on her way out of the building.
TikTok Video Goes Viral For Showing Student Laughing In The Aftermath Of The Oxford High School Shootings
According to reports, the defendant Ethan Crumbley had decided to start firing at Oxford High School in Michigan. A reported four people had been killed, with seven others injured and wounded.
The 15-year old would then go on to be charged on the grounds of “one count of terrorism causing death and four counts of first-degree murder, which could lead to a life sentence if he is convicted.”
But much more than that, Ethan’s parents have apparently been charged with involuntary manslaughter given that they had purchased a gun for a 15-year-old that was quite clearly unlawful.
The incident sent shockwaves around the country, as it was the latest incident that highlighted the dangers of gun control within the United States.
This event, much like the Sandy Hook shootings, threw light on whether or not there needed to be some form of gun control reform.
In the video here, we can see that the uploader is recording the situation as the police direct a group of students to walk out of the school with their hands up.
As the camera pans towards the back, the student can be seen laughing, given that she is being recorded. The response on social media towards the student laughing was entirely one of sympathy.
Rather than seeing it as a sign of disrespect or abhorrent behaviour, a large proportion of people understood that people could behave in unusual ways after going through such a traumatic experience.
One person wrote: “For those in the back: LAUGHING IS A COMPLETELY NORMAL TRAUMA RESPONSE,” while another stated: “I’d be the one laughing because it’s either that or a full-on panic attack.”
This story has shown the dangers that can occur when assault weapons enter the hands of younger people. The only question remaining is how long can this continue to go on before something is done by the authorities to ensure that measures are in place to stop such a thing.
