Dave Chapelle has given his take on the death of the late comedian Bob Saget expressing regret for not texting the star before his death.
Dave Chapelle ‘Regrets’ Not Texting Bob Saget Prior To His Death
Bob had tragically passed away at the age of 65, which just so happened to occur during the course of his comedy tour. And given that Dave and Bob were on friendly terms, his death was clearly a shock for him.
Not only did Dave not see it coming, he did not respond to a text message that Bob had sent to him which ultimately only exacerbated the situation when he was looking back on it.
During an interview with TMZ, Dave said: “But I didn’t see [the death of] Bob coming. Man, he just texted me and I saw the text yesterday and I never texted him back because I was just busy. It happens.”
This encounter may also explain why Dave has continued to double down on his comedy, even in light of the huge criticism that he was being subjected to as a result of his sketch show entitled ‘The Closer.’
Dave Chapelle was infamously accused of making jokes that were deemed to be mocking members of the LGBTQ community. While there were serious calls for him and his show to be cancelled, he managed to defy the critics as Netflix continued to air it.
And by enjoying life as much as he is able to do so, Dave is looking to leave nothing behind. He added: “I’m just saying this to remind you that these moments are precious.
“When I come out at night, I’m not just hanging out. I’m making memories.” Bob’s death reminded the fans the importance of praising people while they are still alive.
Of course it is true to say that nobody is perfect and people often make mistakes. But it is ultimately a question of judging whether somebody has done more good than bad.
And in order to judge Dave Chapelle, the same yardstick should still be applied irrespective of whether you agree with his comedy or not. After all, nobody is perfect.
Time will tell what legacy Dave ultimately leaves behind and whether he does manage to follow in the footsteps of Bob Saget. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
