DDT/TJPW Owner Hopes To Strengthen Ties With AEW, Talents To Have Longer Excursions In 2022

Right now, one of the biggest strengths that AEW has comes with partnerships with outside companies. They have links to multiple companies in Japan, and while people focus on their relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling – their link with DDT & TJPW is perhaps more used. We’ve seen the likes of Maki Itoh and Yuka Sakazaki in the United States from TJPW, and Konosuke Takeshita from DDT in AEW – but never for long. This will be changing in 2022.

Sanshiro Takagi Knows Focus On Overseas Market Is Important

In an attempt to strengthen their image in the United States, Sanshiro Takagi, President of CyberFight would have the following to say. “This year, DDT will focus all of its attention on overseas markets. The most important focus is to expand the overseas market share of the company’s video distribution service “WRESTLE UNIVERSE”.

WRESTLE UNIVERSE not only carries TJPW & DDT, but also Pro Wrestling NOAH. Sadly, NOAH is not currently planned to be part of these plans – despite being able to push towards the same goal. It’s a great service, and their big shows tend to have English Commentary. The interface is arguably more friendly than NJPW World – which likely has a bigger American userbase.

Some Incredible Talent Could Be On Their Way To AEW Thanks To This Deal

This will be a major help to the AEW women’s division. Right now, they have a lack of focus on TV is a big flaw, with a reason being a lack of talented enough names for longer matches. This can be remedied by bringing in some of the amazing workers from TJPW, with a potential run from company ace Miyu Yamashita having great potential for the company.

On the DDT side, we could see puroresu legend Jun Akiyama come stateside, which would allow Eddie Kingston to face perhaps his biggest influence. Konosuke Takeshita is another name AEW fans want to see more of, and at 26 years old – a longer stint in America would only help to evolve his style and bringing him to the next level. Takagi recognized this – saying the following.

“I also said that he (Takeshita) wanted to try various things this year, so I would like to experience it. He is 26 years old and is 187 cm tall. Heavyweight. I think I have something that can be used overseas. “”

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
