This past Wednesday night saw AEW crown new AEW World Tag Team Champions. Fan favorite tag team Jurassic Express were able to take out The Lucha Bros, ending their reign at 122 days. However, this wasn’t the biggest story to come out of this match, as an injury to Rey Fenix had fans deeply concerned.
Rey Fenix Had Fans Worried After Nasty Table Bump, Is Shockingly Okay
This injury would come with a chokeslam off the apron through a table. Luchasarus & Rey Fenix both would go through the table, but the arm of Rey Fenix would bend in an unnatural manner. He was rushed to hospital with fears of a broken arm. This would have likely put Rey Fenix out of action for almost a year.
However, somehow Rey Fenix only suffered a dislocated elbow. An update from RepublicOfLucha (a store run by Fenix & Penta) on Twitter would state the following.
“Thank you for the many messages. Rey Fenix is recovering. There is no fracture, this was fortunately only a dislocation and is now in place. This will only require a few weeks rest to fully recover. ANIMO!”
Lucha Bros vs. Jurassic Express II Could Be On The Way
This is amazing news, and shows that Rey Fenix is truly built differently. The Lucha Bros should be back in action by February, with a rematch against Jurassic Express likely coming soon after. Penta will likely wrestle some singles matches for AEW in the meantime, perhaps even getting a chance to become the TNT Champion.
Right now, The Lucha Bros are one of the best tag teams that AEW has. With reDRagon in AEW, and potential Team Extreme in the works, there are new matches being set up in the division as well. Add in that Fenix & Penta are both incredible in singles action, and they will likely remain as star players in AEW for years to come.
