A TikTok video went viral after a customer responded to a worker’s misgendering of her boyfriend.
TikTok User Outraged After Server Misgendered Her Boyfriend On Three Occasions – ‘You’re Lucky I Tipped You At All’
It is no secret that the increasing number of pronouns on offer have caused a lot of confusion. While this has been seen as an attempt to increase inclusivity and diversity, the very fact of the matter is that it has had a counterproductive effect.
So much so that people are often afraid to address somebody, or on the converse, people become offended when the right pronoun is not used whether that be by accident or design.
In the video here, the woman explains how she used to be a server and therefore was Justified in being angry. She is then heard saying the following: “You fucking did that shit three fucking times.
“You’re lucky I tipped you at all. It’s 2022, get with the fucking program. Oh my god. Just stop gendering people if you don’t fucking know.”
The video instantly went viral with 1 million views and counting. And with that, a large number of people had something to say about the matter, which went on to divide people across many fault lines.
A certain subset of people felt that the mistake may have been an honest one, and therefore it was nothing to get worked up about. After all, it is not as though the server had intentionally set out to do this.
Meanwhile, others felt that workers had to be educated on such matters and only use particular pronouns if they were 100 percent sure that they were the appropriate ones.
One person wrote: “I’m a [server] and when I don’t wanna misgender someone I always say “hey y’all” or “hey you guys” like come one it’s not that hard tbh.”
While another person stated: “Poor old lady. She probably wandered out of the nursing home this morning & thought she was waitressing back in 1902.”
Regardless of which side of the fence you stand on, this story demonstrates that perhaps political correctness has gone too far. But that is sadly not going to be changing anytime soon. So there you have it folks.
