We’re just about one week away from the 2022 Royal Rumble. The annual thirty man over the top rope Battle Royale will once again see who gets a ticket to Wrestlemania – and is open to members of all WWE rosters. This still includes NXT after the rebrand to NXT 2.0 – as two of their biggest names are set to enter the match and change their destinies.
The NXT Champion Bron Breakker Shooting For The Stars
The first name is none other than the NXT Champion – Bron Breakker. Being the son of Rick Steiner, he’s been able to show that he’s got arguably more potential than even his father – quickly going from debut to champion. While fans of Smackdown & RAW might not know him, a strong showing in the Royal Rumble will do a lot to get hype around his name.
Breakker is unlikely to win the match, but we could see someone eliminate him to set up his next title shot. Austin Theory is a popular pick for a challenger, with the match perhaps even happening at Wrestlemania itself. Breakker will be a major star for WWE, and this could all truly start at the Royal Rumble.
GUNTHER To Get His New Name Infront Of A Global Audience At Royal Rumble
Another name comes with the former NXT UK Champion WALTER. Now under the new ring name of GUNTHER – this massive powerhouse is making his way back to the main roster. He’s shown up in the past, notably during a three way Survivor Series match. However, GUNTHER is now set to make waves in the United States – no longer focused on NXT UK.
Placing him into the Royal Rumble gets him infront of a massive crowd, and could help fans warm up to his new ring name. It brought some negative attention to WWE, as originally the plan was to name him “Gunther Stark”, which was a name that had links to the Nazi part, being the name of a U-Boat commander. WWE has stepped back from the last name, and have settled on GUNTHER as a new and more trademarkable name for this star.
