Recently, Bron Breakker was able to climb to the top of the WWE NXT mountain. It was a rapid rise, with his debut coming back in October of 2021 – and he claimed the belt earlier this month. Given his family legacy as a Steiner, he was no stranger to professional wrestling. His father Rick Steiner is a legend in the sport, as his is uncle Scott Steiner. This also meant he grew up around wrestling – and even had a chance to get backstage at AEW prior to signing with WWE.
Bron Breakker Wasn’t Interested In Professional Wrestling When He Went Backstage For AEW
While speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp – Breakker would discuss how he wasn’t looking at professional wrestling until recently. He was trying to get into the NFL, and was drafted to the Baltimore Ravens before being cut from the roster. During his time playing football, he’d be invited to AEW alongside his father. He’d say the following about the experience.
“I was just focused on football at that point. I went to an AEW show when I was playing football. My dad is really good friends with a lot of people that work in the back. I just got to meet those guys, go to a wrestling match because it was in my backyard in Atlanta, right down the street. Just went down there to meet people. It was cool.”
About To Enter A Feud With Legado Del Fantasma
However, he’s 100% focused on professional wrestling now. Since dethroning Tommaso Ciampa, he’s become a target on NXT TV. His first challenger seems to be the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar. This will be new ground for Breakker, as until now – his big matches have not had others at ringside. Escobar has Joaquin Wilde, Raul Mendoza, and Elektra Lopez. All three will be looking to get Escobar on top of NXT 2.0. Meanwhile, Escobar is a seasoned veteran, and everything combined could be a lot for Breakker to worry about.
It seems likely that Breakker could be a WWE lifer. He’s as close to a sure thing WWE has had since Roman Reigns got started, and likely could have a similar career path to Reigns. However, it’s always possible WWE could wind up releasing Breakker in a few years, much like other potential stars before him.
