For most of the last twenty years the WWE has kept Raw and Smackdown separated by a brand split to manage their overly larger roster following the acquisition of WCW and ECW and one was going to be strictly a WCW show.
When there wasn’t enough support for it from a battle hardened WWE fanbase (big surprise, right?), the idea was shelved but not the split idea.
There have been plenty of arguments and reasons to end the separation over the years, but the WWE’s bloated roster was the perfect excuse to keep it going.
But after 2021 alone, where they released 81 wrestlers plus producers and other backstage personnel, on top of recent injuries, there’s no reason to keep Raw and Smackdown separated.
Ignoring the split
It doesn’t help the argument when they randomly violate their own separation rules for a storyline or quick feuds to fill in for a cancelled plan or injuries.
It’s difficult at best to tell when a storyline will go over with the fans, and there’s no telling when injuries will happen as everyone’s body breaks down differently and at different times.
Having the brands reunited would solve some of those problems and help give more consistency to the ongoing storylines.
It’ll also give us a chance to see matchups we may not see otherwise since the draft mainly keeps the same rivals together with only a few changes.
This would also help create some intrigue and excitement for the WWE as it’d give us more of the unpredictability we had in the Attitude Era where anyone can show up at any time.
While they still can, since Vince McMahon makes and breaks the rules as he sees fit, it’d give us more of a wonder about what is to come.
It’ll help Raw
Raw is by far the worst of their shows despite the WWE trying to tie any big name they can to it. The show has shown signs of improvement, but its not in the same league with Smackdown.
By eliminating the brand separation, Roman Reigns and the Bloodline can appear on Raw and with them the writers would transfer over as well to work with the others to make sure the continuity remains.
Raw had its opportunity at Day 1 with new reports saying Rollins was supposed to win until they added Brock Lesnar to it.
Rollins is capable of carrying the show like Reigns, but now that they’re feuding that’s not going to happen for a while.
In the end, the separation could end if they lose enough talent, but it’ll probably only be a temporary thing. What do you think about the brand split? Let us know in the comments below.
