It’s once again time for the annual celebration of tag team wrestling in WWE. NXT 2.0 might have brought some sweeping changes, but the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic remains. Over the past few months, WWE has brought together a strong tag team division for fans to enjoy – and over the coming weeks, they’ll be taking the spotlight. We now know the eight teams who will be entering, and they’re the following.
MSK, Jacket Time, Briggs & Jensen & Edris Enofe Are The First Four Announced Teams For Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic
The first team announced by WWE are last year’s winners and former NXT Tag Team Champions, MSK. MSK have been out of the ring lately – getting their heads back on the right way thanks to some help from Matt Riddle. No one has ever won back to back tournaments, but MSK have a good chance of being the first team to do so.
Next up was Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs. Jensen is the son of WWE alumni Bull Buchanan, and Briggs is a former evolve champion. They’ve been teaming since the inception of NXT 2.0 – and bring a hard hitting style to the ring.
Jacket Time was the third team announced. While many fans aren’t happy to see KUSHIDA working in a more comedic role, they’ve shown a more serious side in recent weeks. Ikeman Jiro & KUSHIDA are both incredible wrestlers, and a deep run in this tournament could help them show this.
Malik Blade & Edris Enofe ‘earned’ their way into the tournament on the latest episode of NXT 2.0. They got through after Joe Gacy & Harland got DQ’d – with Harland ignoring the count of the referee during a beating in the corner. Blade & Enofe have a lot to prove, but everyone loves an underdog story.
Is Third Time The Charm For Grizzled Young Veterans?
Grizzled Young Veterans were runners-up in both 2020 & 2021, but have a good chance of claiming victory this year. Since leaving NXT UK, they’ve failed to find much success, but can turn their careers around really quick if they can get the victory. Alongside rivals MSK, they’re the most experienced team in the field – which could be the deciding factor.
A debut will come with this tournament, as Andre Chase finally brings his star pupil Bodhi Hayward to the ring. Hayward has been helping Chase for weeks now, and now will seek to help him out in the ring on the way to potentially their first gold in the company.
Diamond Mine might have lost the Cruiserweight Championship when Roderick Strong fell to Carmelo Hayes, but have a chance to bounce back with The Creed Brothers. Julius & Brutus have really proven themselves as a powerful team recently, and have their biggest chance to shine yet in this year’s Dusty Cup.
Legado Del Fantasma got a big win recently as Xyon Quinn finally fell to Santos Escobar – and they hope to keep that momentum rolling. Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza are perhaps the fastest tag team NXT has to offer, and winning the Dusty Cup would get them a chance to claim gold.
