On WWE’s Day 1, Drew McIntyre was brutally attacked by Happy Corbin after his match with Madcap Moss.
The attack led to the WWE to announce storyline injuries on social media:
“INJURY UPDATE:

Written off due to legitimate injury
Attacks like these are entertaining as it builds on the current feud, creates a new one, and allows fans to get caught up in it by demanding action be taken against the assailants.
In other cases, it’s a reason to write talent off TV so they can take part in other projects, have some time off, or deal with legitimate injuries.
One of the first I can remember was when King Kong Bundy and Big John Studd took out Hulk Hogan on Saturday Night’s Main Event so Hogan could shoot No Holds Barred and Rollins sacrificed himself in a non-injury moment at Survivor Series to spend time with Becky Lynch and their baby.
In this case, it appears Drew McIntyre has a legitimate neck injury and he’ll take some time off to take care of it.
No time frame
According to PWInsider, McIntyre has been dealing with legitimate neck problems for several weeks and he’s going to undergo medical testing.
At this time, there’s no time frame for his return as the severity of his injury isn’t known yet, and what caused his injury has been released so we’re crossing our fingers for him to get well soon and hopefully, it isn’t serious.
On the plus side, medicine’s come a long way since the days of Austin and even Edge since wrestlers are being cleared and returning to action now. While injuries to the neck are still dangerous, there’s every chance that this will be taken care of and things will be fine.
Also, given McIntyre reportedly wrestled the most matches in the WWE in 2021 with 95, it makes sense that there’d be some wear and tear, but the expectation would be it’d involve joints or something along those lines.
It’s a testament to how they risk their lives to entertain us and for that we’re extremely grateful. In the end, everyone’s human despite portraying a larger than life character and injuries happen.
We wish McIntyre the best and hope he has a speedy recovery for himself and his family.
