It has been a wild few days for one of the best wrestlers in WWE today. WALTER has recently moved to the United States, and the former NXT UK Champion wasn’t keen on having his name trademarked. Due to this, WWE would assign WALTER a new name, and this was to be Gunther Stark.
WWE Drops The Trademark Of Gunther Stark, WALTER Is No Simply ‘GUNTHER’
WWE fans quickly found a horrible connection to the name. A quick google search showed the name Gunther Stark was attached to a former Nazi U-Boat commander. Despite this, when WALTER finished his match with Roderick Strong – he announced that the winner was not WALTER, but rather GUNTHER.
The lack of the last name was a sign of hope, and now WWE sources have confirmed that his name is simply going to be GUNTHER. This is not a bad name, and understandable considering WALTER would stand tall on keeping the name to himself.
WWE likely chose this route after getting bad press around the world, including in Germany – where the story made the front page of one of their biggest newspapers. People will move on and forget this incident – and it will only be brought up when another bad name arises in WWE.
Another Bad Name Idea From WWE, That Didn’t Pan Out
This is a similar fate to when WWE wanted to name a faction as Submission Sorietity, before realising this was the name of an adult video website. It would quickly be renamed to PCB. These situations often pop up in WWE, where they trademark something at random – and have to backstep and modify it.
When it comes to WALTER, he was smart to not hand over the trademark to his name. Despite a strong run in NXT UK, success is never certain in WWE these days – and a contract release can come out of nowhere. If this comes, he can show up elsewhere as WALTER, and people will come around on the GUNTHER ring name. So long as the same in-ring style follows him, things will work out just fine.
