The WWE is no stranger to controversy as it gets people talking, but their latest maneuver has even reportedly gotten heat from the main media in Germany over the Nazi change in character for WALTER.
Yesterday, it was reported that the WWE filed for a trade mark for the a Nazi U-Boat commander’s name, Gunther Stark and this got fans talking about it meaning Heidenreich was coming back as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble.
This made sense at the time and we may still see Heidenreich at the Rumble, but after NXT 2.0 last night, it appears the WWE has other plans.
WALTER no more
WALTER is regarded, and rightly so, as one of, is not the best wrestler in the world. He’s a true ring general that elevates himself and others he’s working with each time he steps into the ring.
But after he defeated Roderick Strong, he announced his name is no longer WALTER, it’s Gunther.
While it’s possible this was simply a coincidence as WALTER’s getting ready to shift to the main brands, it’s hard to think no one googled the name before the trademark filing.
It looks like someone backstage figured things out and WALTER never added a last name to his name change, which will help things blow over if the WWE leaves it as is.
But then the WWE needs the attention and people watching their product, so its feasible they hype this up a little more, minus the Nazi ties.
Fans speak out
Man….if what I'm hearing is real….
Poor Walter.

The fans are mostly united in their dislike of the change in name, and the fact it appears WALTER’s new name is the same of as a Nazi U-Boat Commander only adds more to this.
If the WWE ever wanted to make a misstep that makes no sense, this could he the one. Even if the whole Nazi aspect was a coincidence, changing WALTER’s name was a huge misstep that others like Keith Lee shared their thoughts on it.
We’re curious where this is going to go as the WWE is at a point where they can’t seem to do anything right from booking, keeping talent, and even choosing names.
This may be a black eye for the WWE, but it’s just another in a long line of them and we can’t help but expect more to come.
