CM Punk has a chance to get a rematch against MJF, after being embarrassed in Chicago. All he needs to do is defeat FTR tonight with a tag team partner of his choosing. He can’t pick Darby Allin or Sting however, so Punk needs to find someone else who is willing to put their body on the line for him to get a chance at MJF.
Someone who will never turn down a chance to fight is Jon Moxley, who answered the call of Punk. These two have some history in WWE, but this is their first time together in AEW. These are two great singles wrestlers, but can they beat a great tag team?
CM Punk & Jon Moxley Take The Fight To FTR
Punk would start alongside Harwood, quickling taking him down to the mat before getting caught with a headscissor. Harwood got a shoulder tackle and hip toss in, before Punk was able to easily out wrestle him. Wheeler would tag in, but was caught with a slick arm drag. Punk maintained control of the arm, but Wheeler panicked when he realised the tag was near.
Harwood & Moxley entered the match, with Harwood getting a shoulder tackle before being caught with a scoop slam. Moxley hit a trio of PK’s before tagging Punk back into the ring. Wheeler ran a distraction, and Harwood took advantage with a chop block before FTR worked together to take out that knee. MJF focused on the same limb last week, and some tape made the injury obvious.
Punk would dodge a splash in the corner and get Moxley back into the match, who might have to handle this one alone. He’d nail release German suplexes on both members of FTR, before hitting a double DDT. Punk had enough spring in his step to hit a springboard lariat, before Moxley hit a dive to the outside.
This one was turning into a brawl at ringside, the referee having lost control. Punk was kneeing Harwood in the face, and Moxley took Wheeler into the crowd. Harwood took a suplex onto the floor, but Moxley was rammed into the steel steps once they got back to ringside. FTR hit a backdrop through the announce table – sending Moxley through.
A Tag Team Classic On AEW Dynamite
It was on him to make the ten count, but Moxley made it back in at nine. Wheeler was waiting with the stomp, and Moxley was quickly isolated in the FTR corner. Harwood rained down quick strikes, but Moxley was able to fire off a quick suplex as Wheeler hit the ring. Harwood drew Punk away from the tag, before Wheeler sent him off the apron.
FTR hit the elevated leg drop on Moxley, but only got a two count. Harwood went up top again for an elbow drop, but Moxley dodged. King Kong Lariat dropped Wheeler, and Punk finally got the tag. He’d rush in with a leg lariat and short arm clothesline, getting a two count on Harwood. Moxley would help set up a Doomsday Device, and Punk got all of the lariat. In the ring, Harwood managed to kick out at two.
On the floor, Wheeler hit a tornado DDT on Moxley, and grabbed the ring bell. Punk rolled up Harwood, and Harwood kicked out – sending him into a ring bell shot. Brainbuster landed, but Punk managed to kick out. Getting a match with MJF is worth the punishment, and Punk would have the GTS countered into the Big Rig – but Moxley made the last minute save!
Punk & Moxley would nearly both land their finishers – but FTR made the escape. Mindbreaker was set, but Moxley applied the bulldog choke on Harwood. Punk got a visual submission with the Anaconda Vice, but Tully Blanchard made the save and took the GTS. Wheeler got a roll up for two, before taking the GTS to end this match.
