This past Wednesday was a major episode of AEW Dynamite. While the debuts of Jay White & Keith Lee have taken most of the attention, there was another debut on the show. One of the top students of Booker T was in the mix, as A.Q.A took on Jade Cargill for the TBS Championship. Despite failing to claim gold, she was able to claim an AEW contract.
Tony Khan Announces A.Q.A Is All Elite
This was announced earlier today by Tony Khan himself on Twitter, but doesn’t come as much of a surprise. She was seconds away from being the first to hand Jade Cargill a defeat on Dynamite, after hitting her signature Shooting Star Press. Add in having a full entrance and a pre-match promo, it was clear that AEW wanted fans to take notice of A.Q.A.
Following the match, fans were hoping to see that she was signed to a contract, as the AEW Women’s division is sorely lacking in high fliers. The only names that come to mind with that style in AEW, are former AEW Women’s World Champion Riho, and Yuka Sakazaki – both of whom don’t show up in AEW on a regular basis.
Her Chance To Finally Become A Star
Following a frustrating run in WWE’s NXT brand, which saw her win a single match and be pulled from TV due to health issues – this is a chance for A.Q.A to truly become a star in professional wrestling. She’s joining a rising division at a time when it feels like anyone can be a breakout star.
Add in AEW rising in terms of ratings, and it’s the perfect time for someone like her to make a splash. She’s likely to be a potential contender for the AEW World Women’s Championship within the next year, but could end up in a feud with someone like Serena Deeb first.
Deeb has been focused on taking down rookies, and might mistake the fresh faced A.Q.A for a rookie that she can tap out in a minute. A.Q.A & Deeb have styles that will work well together, potentially being akin to Dean Malenko vs. Rey Mysterio.
