The WWE and Cesaro have gone their separate ways according to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson.
Cesaro has been with the WWE since 2011 and is leaving a very good legacy where he won tag team gold 7 times and was one of the company’s top performers.
According to reports, Cesaro and WWE could come to an agreement on his new contract. Because his contract ended versus being released, Cesaro doesn’t have to wait out a 90 day non-compete clause.
Which means he can literally show up at a show tonight and wrestle if he so chooses.
The Swiss Superman
Where he’ll go is up in the air, but we’ll hear a lot about the possibilities over the next few days or weeks as he weighs his options, with AEW and Impact Wrestling most likely being the top names bounced around.
He closed out his WWE run with a loss to Happy Corbin on February 11’s episode of Smackdown after appearing sporadically the previous few weeks.
Cesaro was a fan favorite due to his strength and subtle charisma and many believed he was one of WWE’s most underrated wrestlers.
Underutilized is another great way to describe him as many fans, including yours truly, thought he should’ve beaten Roman Reigns a few months back at Backlash.
Not only did Cesaro lose, but it felt like the feud was just getting going. Instead, he went to the bottom of the championship chase.
He pushed for a rematch on the show and in social media afterwards, but another feud with Seth Rollins was teased instead and then headed to the midcard.
Cesaro’s potential remains untapped, but he’d be a perfect fit for AEW as his name is an instant draw and he’d mesh perfectly with the rest of the roster.
Other options
Okay, so we’re not waiting to mention places he may go. But can you blame us? It’s always fun to try to guess a wrestler’s destination, and we do think he’d be perfect in AEW.
He has some old reliables like Bryan Danielson and Chris Jericho he can feud with, as well as enter into the world championship chase with Adam Page.
In the end, wherever he goes they will get a great and entertaining wrestler and hopefully he’ll get a world championship. He’s earned it and we’re appreciative for his years in the WWE.
Thank you, Cesaro. We can’t wait to see you back in action.
