Former star of ‘The Bachelor’ Demi Burnett has revealed that she has been diagnosed with autism.
Demi Burnett Has Been Diagnosed With Autism-‘I Encourage You To Be Open Minded And Accepting’
Demi, for her part, first made her appearance to the fans when she appeared on Colton Underwood’s season of the show. Although she failed to win him over, in hindsight, she had a lucky escape as Colton would go on to come out as gay.
Equally, Demi had her own milestones when she became the first person to enter into a same-sex relationship on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ when she got engaged to Kristian Haggerty.
That would sadly not last long, which has now seen her life become more complicated by autism. The disease is often seen in the earlier parts of a person’s life, as it is characterised by difficulties in communication and behaviour.
But rather than let this rule her life, Demi has vowed to continue being happy. In a post to her fans on Instagram, she said: “I did a psychological evaluation and I’m autistic. There is a huge stigma when it comes to autism.
“I encourage you to be open minded and accepting…All I want is to have a better quality of life.I will share more on my story of my evaluation and how I got to this point and all of my pain and struggles.”
And after realising that this is something she has to come to terms with, Demi took it upon herself to support others who may be going through similar things.
In this way, she wants her story to serve as an example that it is possible to overcome anything and let people know that they have support on hand.
She added: “I want to make sure anyone who is/was feeling like me can know you really aren’t alone. It can get better! And most importantly it isn’t your fault.”
Demi has shown a lot of courage in speaking about this, as it could have equally backfired given the perception that autism has. But now that she has done so, her story will inspire others that it is possible to have success in one’s life.
