Keith Lee signing with AEW is a great move for him and the company and it was great seeing him in action once more. The AEW crowd wasted no time in adopting his old chant from NXT we rarely, if ever, heard when he was on WWE’s main roster.
If his debut is any indication, he’s going to have a solid run and gives them another giant that can be a pillar of the company for years to come as they once again cash in on a mistake by the WWE.
Speaking out
It’s been reported that Keith Lee was released for having a bad attitude, which to many means he spoke up and defended his character and disapproved of how he was being used.
And to be fair, the WWE dropped the ball with him just like they did Karrion Kross.
What really makes this signing and debut memorable beyond Lee’s joy at being the ring and fans appreciation for him is the backlash by many on social media.
They’re not the majority, but like any time a move happens the tribalism come rearing its ugly head and it can be pretty entertaining at times.
Hardcore WWE fans don’t like seeing Lee in AEW because it’s not the WWE, and we hear how AEW won’t know what to do with him and he’ll be in catering in a couple of months or released.
Oddly enough, they cite other former WWE stars, yet most of those AEW has signed have large rolls in the currently storyline like Malakai Black, Matt Hardy, CM Punk to name a few.
More is better
It’s easy to look past the fact that for the last three years AEW has given us a viable big name alternative to the WWE and they’ve helped bring about a revolution as the Indies are on the rise in popularity.
Every company has their hardcore fans that ride or die with them, and if that works for them that’s great.
For us, we love having to many options to watch and that allow wrestlers and others to move from one place to another if something doesn’t work out instead of languishing under ideal circumstances.
The options give wrestlers more opportunities to do what they love, which is to entertain us, and earn a living being happy and content.
It’s not always easy, but having that opportunity is important, and as fans we get to reap the benefits of their hard work and dedication.
While the toxic fans will always be around, we hope having multiple companies to choose from will as well.
