Tonight, for the second time in his AEW career – Lance Archer is going to try to become the AEW World Champion. He’s got Hangman Page in a Texas Deathmatch, which is one of the signature matches of Archer. Having previously defeated Jon Moxley in one on Dynamite to claim the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship, Archer has good odds tonight. However, about three months ago, Archer nearly saw his career come to an end.

Lance Archer Nearly Ended Up Paralyzed After Botched Moonsault

During a Saturday Night edition of AEW Dynamite, Lance Archer was taking on Eddie Kingston. With this match as part of the AEW World Championship Elimination Tournament, Archer was ready to risk it all. He’d go for a moonsault during this match, and ended up on the shelf afterwards.

Archer basically landed on his head, and was lucky that his injuries weren’t fatal. He’d reveal as much while speaking on Busted Open Radio ahead of tonight’s big title match.

“You know, a centimetre a different way, and it could have been a completely different result. I basically gave myself an extreme version of whiplash, because I bounced off my forehead. But if it had been any part of the crown of my head, I probably would have been paralyzed or dead. So beyond blessed that that didn’t happen.”

Not Looking Past The Challenge That Is Hangman Page

With Page being his first major match back from injury, Archer isn’t looking past him. Archer has been watching closely, and knows that Page is better than ever right now. During the same interview on Busted Open Radio, he’d say the following on Hangman Page.

“You can’t take anything away from Hangman Page. He went for an hour with Brian Danielson, one of the best in the world, The American Dragon. Then he went another 30 minutes and found a way to beat Brian Danielson. He took the title off of Kenny Omega. Again, one of the best.”

Despite this, Archer knows he’s on another level than Danielson or Omega. Archer is a proper heavyweight, one of the biggest men in AEW. Page has never really met someone like him in a match this big.

“Now, I’m not those two guys. I’m a very different element, I’m a lot bigger, I’m a lot stronger, I’m that murder of monsters that I like to say because it’s just fun to say. Him hitting me like he hits those guys is not gonna be the same, and him getting hit by me is not the same. So he’s got to prepare for a different monster than he has in the past with those guys.”

Will Lance Archer be able to stop Hangman Page tonight? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
