One of the biggest ‘feel good’ moments of 2021 in WWE was Big E finally becoming the WWE Champion. After years of amazing performances as part of The New Day, and a solid run as Intercontinental Champion – Big E was finally on top of WWE after cashing in the Money in The Bank contract. He’d prove he belonged with a win over Drew McIntyre and solid showing at Survivor Series against Roman Reigns – but then WWE Day One came around. Suddenly, Brock Lesnar was WWE Champion, and Big E had fallen back down the roster.
People Backstage In WWE Are Angry That The Rug Was Pulled Out From Underneath Big E
Considering Big E is one of the most beloved names in all of WWE, his return to tag team action alongside Kofi Kingston has not sat well with the locker room in WWE. Big E went on record stating that despite loving the New Day, going back to tag team action would be a major step down for him in WWE.
He reached the top, and proved he has all the tools to be a star – but WWE somehow failed to realise this, and now he’s back in the tag team ranks. Wrestling journalist Wade Keller would reach out to sources within WWE about this, and had the following to say about the mood within WWE as far as Big E is concerned.
“I’ve asked around, and all I’ve gotten is people who are really upset, you know, with the rug being pulled out from under him…one person just described him as a magnificent human being who doesn’t deserve this treatment.”
If Big E Leaves, The Rest Of The New Day Will Follow
Right now, it seems like WWE is moving towards a champion vs. champion match between Brock Lesnar & Roman Reigns for Wrestlemania. Not only do fans as a whole not want to see this match, the fact that Big E had lost the WWE Championship to help build the confusing path to this rematch doesn’t sit well with fans.
We can only hope that WWE realises they have a genuine star in Big E before it’s too late. It’s very likely that if he remains as a tag team player when his contract is done, he will not stick with the company. If Big E leaves, it’s highly likely Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods would be close behind as well.
