Two years in a row now, Grizzled Young Veterans have made the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They’re just one win away from making that three in a row, but standing in their way is perhaps the breakout team of 2022 – The Creed Brothers. After taking Imperium to their limit in a six man tag team match – they’re ready to win this tournament and get a title shot. This one was announced to kick off NXT in commercial free fashion.

Grizzled Young Veterans Use The Ring As A Weapon

Action kicked off fast with Brutus Creed absolutely launching James Drake, who would need to tag out while he cooled off. James Gibson tagged in and applied a tight hammerlock, before Brutus wrestled his way free. Julius tagged in and threw Brutus onto Gibson. Some quick thinking from Drake saved Gibson in the corner, getting The Grizzled Young Veterans back on top.

Julius would hit some big slams on Drake, before a blind tag failed to stop his momentum. The Creed Brothers studied the tape, and knew this was coming – so Julius just ran down both opponents. They’d attack Gibson with some knee strikes, before drawing Brutus to the ropes before some rough tactics saw Gibson push the rope into his throat.

On the outside, GYV would slingshot Brutus into the ring supports throat first. He was gasping for oxygen after this, and GYV had their target. Gibson propped Brutus up on the ropes before Drake dove down with an axe handle, before the headlock was applied. Things were looking grim, but Julius was still fresh.

Never Count The Creed Brothers Out

Gibson would tag in and ook for Helter Skelter, only for Brutus to counter into a suplex. Drake would get the tag and cut the ring in half, before applying a sleeper hold. Brutus would fight free, and Julius was able to hit the ring. He’d throw some right hands before a chop block cut Drake down. Stretch Muffler was applied, but Drake was able to counter out before being tossed.

Drake would get the tag to Gibson, who drew Julius to the outside, allowing Drake to hit a big dive to the outside. Julius was crushed into the announce desk and back in the ring, nailed a Doomsday Device for a two count. Brutus would tag in, and fight on instinct more than anything. He’d throw clubbing blows before taking a throat chop.

GYV would double team Brutus with some heavy shots, before calling for the finish. Brutus would drive Gibson into the corner before Julius dropped Drake with a superplex. The Creed Brothers nailed a massive slam, and Brutus closed this one with a big lariat. What a comeback victory!
