Since the WWE released him, Jeff Hardy’s been rumored to go to AEW to rejoin his brother Matt Hardy, and it was recently reported that he is going to AEW.
That day’s going to come sooner than anyone expects as Fightful has reported that Jeff “will be All Elite” soon, and it looks like it could be as early and this week’s AEW Dynamite on March 9 as reported in wrestlinginc.com.
It’s also been reported that he may not wrestler of appear on the show, but he’ll probably be there.
The catch is his non-compete clause ends on March 9, and depending on the nuances in it, specifies a time and so on, he may not be able to appear on the air.
For argument’s sake, we’re going to assume it runs out on March 9 in general, so he could sign and appear on the show.
Reuniting the Hardy Boyz
The most popular expectation is that AEW will reunite the Hardy Boyz for a dream feud with the Young Bucks. The two teams have faced off before in the Indies, but this would be their first feud on a national promotion.
This is the exact thing that’s been reported the WWE wanted to avoid once they realized firing Jeff was a mistake. It’s been said that the Hardys and Bucks was something they wanted to avoid and tried to resign Jeff.
According to Jeff, they even offered to induct him in the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame class. Jeff declined, and we can’t blame him after he was fired for not going to rehab after he did not fail a drug test.
It also shows there are other options out there for wrestlers as the Indies have been growing the last couple of years, thanks in large part to the WWE budget cuts.
AEWWE
Of course, this is going to add fuel to the fire of AEW detractors for hiring yet another WWE star and it’ll draw comparisons to WCW.
The difference here is it’s next to impossible to sign a top flight talent in the United States that hasn’t worked for the WWE at Some point.
The pillars of AEW did as Cody, Brandi Rhodes, the Young Bucks, and even Kenny Omega worked there under a developmental contract in Deep South Wrestling from 2005 to 2006.
What rubs fans the wrong way is that AEW started with a roster of largely unknowns (to the general wrestling fans) that were from abroad and the Indies.
While the argument that they strayed away from their roots has some validity, it’s pretty impossible, not to mention a bad business decision, to not sign the best talent available if they can improve their product.
It’s something that happens in professional sports all the time with hit or miss consequences, but so far AEW has benefited from their deals and having the Hardy Boyz back together is a coup and will generate tons of publicity for the company.
Besides, we’d love to see them in action together at least one more time.
