Russian Ballet Dancer Olga Smirnova Denounces Her Country’s Attack On Ukraine-‘I Never Thought That I Would Be Ashamed’
Olga, for her part, is taking a huge risk by virtue of the fact that people who have opposed the invasion in Russia have been subjected to arrest. While that may be the case, it is important to bear in mind that Olga’s grandfather was Ukrainian.
Therefore, she clearly does have a strong connection with the country, and it explains why she has been left so torn. In a post on Telegram, she said: “I cannot but say that with all the fibers of my soul I am against the war.
“I never thought that I would be ashamed of Russia. I have always been proud of the talented Russian people, our cultural and sporting achievements.”
Her actions, albeit more stern, have followed in the same way as another ballet dancer Xander Parish. The Brit recently announced that he would not be participating in the country’s Mariinsky Ballet and made the decision to leave Russia.
These two decisions have been significant, as they demonstrate that at a personal level, people are stepping up in order to distance themselves from the Russian regime.
And if this continues in a similar manner, it may lead to a situation where the Russian leadership under President Vladimir Putin has to reconsider its current policy. After all, people are not happy.
Olga added: “It hurts that people are dying, while others are deprived of a roof over their heads or forced to leave their homes.”
Olga was lauded on social media for her action. Large numbers of people recognised that she was putting herself in the firing line with her words.
One person wrote: “Olga Smirnova, is extremely brave. She is risking arrest or assassination. Putin’s Russia has a proven track record f murdering those who disagree with Putin.”
Olga has taken a brave stance, and perhaps her words will resonate with those that have been afraid to speak out. We will have to see if she will face further consequences as a result of her words. So there you have it folks. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
