When it comes to a show in professional wrestling, the most important part of the show is the closing moments. You can ran a damn near perfect show, but if you botch the finish – fans will not be sent away happy. So when AEW ran a jam packed card this past Wednesday, featuring great matches over the ROH World Television Championship and AEW World Tag Team Championships – but closed with the debut of Santam Singh – fans had strong opinions about this.
Tony Khan Admits He Would Do The Debut Of Santam Singh Differently
For those who did not watch the episode, here is what happened. Following Samoa Joe defeating Minoru Suzuki via the Muscle Buster, he’d be confronted by Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt. They would distract him, and the lights would go out. When they came back on, Santam Singh was behind Joe, and alongside Lethal & Dutt – would beat Joe down. Fans had no idea who this giant was, and failed to really care.
Even Tony Khan himself has now admitted that there was some missteps made with this debut. While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan would have the following to say.
“I could have done it better. It’s one of those things. I wish I had done it a little differently. The fans are always gonna be right so if the fans don’t like something sometimes there’s some things about it where you are trying to get heat and people aren’t always gonna love it. There were things about it I probably should have done differently now that I see in hindsight.”
Don’t Count Singh Out Yet
While Singh had a poor debut, and is being compared to fellow giants in Great Khali or Omos – fans might not be wise to write him off just yet. Singh has reportedly been training seven days a week for the past eight months, with his trainers saying that fans will be pleasantly surprised by what he can do in the ring.
