One of the things that makes AEW so great is that talent truly gets the freedom to be themselves. This has helped the likes of Max Caster to get over with crowds, as no one truly knows what will come out of his mouth when he gets a live microphone. That is, except for Tony Khan – who has taken to personally approving Caster’s entrance raps.
Max Caster Is Kept On A Leash With His Promos
While appearing on the Rob Brown show, AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone would speak about if he’s ever nervous about what wrestlers will say – with Caster & MJF being the big two examples. Schiavone had the following to say in response.
“With MJF, I am, because he has a tendency to be out of line. Max Caster, no, because that’s pretty much been put under wraps. Tony Khan has to approve what the rap is now. That’s burned him. I don’t know what he said one time, I can’t remember exactly what he said, but he got suspended because of a rap one time.”
Caster was suspended back in August of 2021, following a rap about the mental health of Simone Biles made it’s way onto AEW Dark. There was a lot of teasing from Caster about his future following this incident, with him following the WWE NXT twitter account during his suspension. Caster has since returned to AEW programming, but has lost complete freedom on his raps, and had to undergo sensitivity training.
Having Khan’s approval for raps has not made the gimmick any less exciting, it simply ensures AEW doesn’t end up with bad PR. Caster has been able to enter some major matches since then, even getting a chance to lock up with CM Punk. John Cena would praise the skills of Caster as well, saying he does the rap music gimmick better than Cena ever did.
