Vanessa Lachey didn’t hold back when speaking about the problems she once faced in her relationship with Nick Lachey. During the reunion episode ‘The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On’ Vanessa revealed that she used to secretly sift through Nick’s phone, and that he would also do the same thing to her.
In a brazen violation of privacy, Vanessa admitted to the toxic habit of snooping on her now-husband. Vanessa, who co-hosted the show alongside Nick, made the revelation when a contestant named April copped to going through her boyfriend’s phone while he slept.

‘I’ve got mixed feelings about that, I know there was a time in my life when I did it,’ she said. Shocked by her confession, Nick Lachey muttered, ‘You wait what?’ leading Vanessa to throw her husband under the bus as well. ‘You did it too! I’m actually really surprised you figured out my password. That was a good one,” she quipped back.
With a clear lack of trust between both partners in the relationship, the pair sought out the help of a couple’s counselor to set them straight. ‘I remember we went to a therapist and she was like “If y’all are going through each other’s phones then you shouldn’t be together. I was like “you’re right, I need to trust this man and he needs to trust me.” Vanessa concluded.
Vanessa and Nick Lachey began dating in 2006 after Vanessa starred in Nick’s “What’s Left of Me” music video. After five years together, Vanessa knew that she was ready to take their relationship to the next level. ‘So I finally said, “What are we doing?” I had moved in with him, I had renovated his entire bachelor pad, there was a bar in the pool, I was like ‘whatever you want’, and now I’m like, “OK I want to put kids in the pool,’ she said.
Nick wasn’t quite as eager to give Vanessa a ring and they briefly broke up before realizing that they belonged together. “If I’m being completely candid and transparent, we took a break. We both saw one other person and we realized that if we got out of our own way, we could be amazing together.
‘But it took me seeing somebody else and me realizing I don’t mind the things that bugged me or were holding me back,” said Vanessa. The two got married on July 15, 2011 and share three children – sons Camden, 9, and Phoenix, 5, and daughter Brooklyn, 7.
Prior to that, Nick had been in a very public romance with Jessica Simpson, whom he married in 2002. Their marriage was chronicled in the popular reality television series, “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” before divorcing in 2005.
