Let’s get into the McDonald’s Big Mac superfan who has been eating the signature burger every day for the past 50 years! That might sound wild but 68-year-old Don Gorske has done just that.
Big Mac Superfan Don Gorske Has Just Celebrated 50 Years of Eating the Signature Burger Every Day
McDonald’s released the Big Mac onto the world in 1967 but Gorske of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin first experienced the power of the two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun on May 17, 1972. Can you imagine how much of an impression a piece of food had to make on a person that they remember the exact date that they first had it 50 years ago?
Most probably remember Don Gorske from the 2004 Morgan Spurlock documentary Super Size Me where he discussed his own eating habits and enjoying the Big Mac for so many years. Gorske went into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2018 after eating his 30,000th Mac. Last year, he was nearing 32,700 on a diet that includes at least one Big Mac and Coca Cola.
Nearing 70-years-old, Don Gorske doesn’t seem to be slowing down on his Big Mac intake. You’d think eating them every day would’ve been detrimental to his health early on but the former correctional officer says that’s far from the case:
“I got a comic of somebody saying I was gonna die of a heart attack within 15,000 big macs. Heck, now I’m over 30,000. I’m still alive. It’s not really the food you eat. It’s your lifestyle. If you’re lazy, I probably would have gained a lot of weight. But, because I’m so active, I burn off my only calories.”
Gorske often hits up his favorite McDonald’s in his hometown of Fond du Lac, where he also met and proposed to his wife of almost 50 years, Mary. Interestingly, his love for the Big Mac started on a $5 bet—which he won and would use to buy more Big Macs.
