Ray Liotta, the star of several classic neo-noir films of the 1990s, passed away while in the Dominican Republic filming Dangerous Waters. The 67-year-old actor died in his sleep, according to Deadline.
“Goodfellas” and “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” Star Ray Liotta Dies at 67, No Foul Play Suspected
Ray Liotta got his start on screen in the soap opera Another World where he played Joey Perrini. He would make his name in the film industry via 1989’s Field of Dreams, co-starring with Kevin Costner as Shoeless Joe Jackson. Liotta would follow that up with perhaps his most remembered role as real-life mobster Henry Hill in Goodfellas—if you haven’t seen it, go watch it, by the way—alongside Robert De Nero and Joe Pesci.
After landing Goodfellas, he only continued to appear in more classics and cult classics. One film that he starred in that sometimes gets slept on was Cop Land with Sylvester Stallone. Liotta also had a role in one of my personal favorites, Blow with Johnny Depp.
While filming in the Dominican Republic, he was with his fiancée, Jacy Nittolo. The two engaged in December 2020. He is survived by his daughter and actress Karsen Liotta. The younger Liotta would appear in season three of Shades of Blue as the deceased daughter of Liotta’s character on the show.
