Between 2008 & 2009, WWE went all in on Jeff Hardy as a top star. He would be defeating the likes of Triple H & Edge in PPV matches as WWE Champion, and also became the World Heavyweight Champion. During his time with the World Heavyweight Championship, he would feud with CM Punk – leading to an incredible TLC match at Summerslam 2009.
That feud ended Hardy’s time in WWE, and set things in motion for CM Punk to rise to stardom two years later. Now with both men signed to AEW – there’s a chance that things could get reignited between these two veterans of the ring.
Jeff Hardy Wants To Work With CM Punk Again
While on the Wrestling With Freddie podcast, Jeff Hardy would reminisce about his time working with CM Punk. He’d say the following about the feud, and how there’s a big moment to come when they cross paths once again.
“Winning the World Championship was like a little boy’s dream come true, man. God, and then to do it over and over again. One of my favourite things, as far as being the World Champion, was working with CM Punk. It’s so crazy that we’re in the same company now and there’s a huge moment between me and Punk. It’s going to come, I’m sure. I think there’s a huge moment, just in the hallway, like me and Matt beat The Young Bucks or whatever at whatever pay-per-view is coming up, or whatever happens, but then we run into him, and me and punk just have a face-off.”
Podcast host and former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. really liked the idea. He would joke later that he was going to write up the storyline and send it directly to AEW owner Tony Khan.
Both Men Will Be Around For Double Or Nothing 2022
Both Jeff Hardy & CM Punk are booked for the upcoming AEW PPV Double or Nothing – with CM Punk in the main event challenging Hangman Page for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship. Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy will unite to take on The Young Bucks at the PPV, something which fans have wanted since Jeff showed up on the AEW roster.
Should CM Punk leave Double or Nothing as AEW World Heavyweight Champion, it’s very likely we see him defend against his old rival of Jeff Hardy – even just for the main event of an episode of AEW Dynamite or Rampage.
