An arrest has been made in the death of former Kansas Jayhawks soccer player Regan Gibbs. The student-athlete died on May 16, 2022, and now her husband, Chad Marek has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The Husband of Former Kansas Jayhawks Goalie Regan Gibbs Arrested in Connection to Her Death
The Lawrence PD says that police arrived at the couple’s apparent at 7:26 PM on May 16 and found Marek and Gibbs whose condition was described as “mortally wounded.” She would be declared dead on the scene and with Chad Marek there, he was brought in on suspicion of murder.
Currently, the police are looking at domestic violence as a contributing factor in her death. If the investigation points to this being the cause, Marek would be on the line for the murder of the 25-year-old Regan Gibbs.
The young player was a member of Kansas University’s women’s soccer team from 2015 until 2018. She had a record for having the lowest goals-against average in the team’s history and would go on to compete in two NCAA tournaments.
Gibbs’ family started a GoFundMe to cover $20,000 in expenses for her funeral. On it, Regan Gibbs is described as:
“Regan was only 25, a beautiful, kindhearted girl who loved Jesus and people. She had a big heart for the homeless and hoped to go back to school to become a Physicians Assistant to do mission work.
Regan had a precious soul and she was loved by everyone who knew her. She leaves behind her family which includes four younger sisters who are heartbroken by this tragic loss.”
As of this posting, the fundraiser exceeded its goal at $21,405.
