Comedian Amy Schumer has hit back at a headline which blamed her for the current shortage of tampons.
Amy Schumer BLASTS Critics Accusing Her Of Causing The Global Tampon Shortage-‘Whoa, I Don’t Even Have A Uterus’
Amy, for her part, had every right to question the headline. In 2021, she was very vocal about the excessive pain she was experiencing through her periods. This had been caused as a result of suffering from endometriosis.
This can result in pain in the pelvic area, as well as the stomach. As a result, Amy had to undergo some surgery to resolve the issue. That is why she could not understand the following headline.
In a post to her fans on Instagram, Amy shared a picture of a headline stating ‘Why Amy Schumer is getting blamed for the national tampon shortage.’ Next to it is a picture of Amy promoting the tampon company: ‘Tampax.’
The post was captioned by the following comments: “Whoa, I don’t even have a uterus.” Clearly, Amy has taken the comments in jest.
But there is some foundation to the headline even if it is exaggerated out of proportion. Prior to Amy undergoing her surgery, she was very prominent in advertising Tampax.
In the video here, we can see that Amy is having a consultation with a doctor over tampons. She is holding a donut, as the tampon is inserted in it to show how it works. Thereafter, Amy took the tampon out of the donut and put it in her mouth.
Just as the advert generated a lot of ridicule, the same was said of Amy’s comments in response to the headline. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
A significant proportion of fans began to make a running joke out of Amy’s comments. One person wrote: “This is what you get for telling women about different tampon sizes. It’s all YOUR fault and not the company’s. Uh-huh. Yup.”
It is fair to say that this was not the highlight of Amy’s career. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
