Former NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer hit and killed a woman in a car crash that occurred on June 5, 2022, in Lake Ozark, Missouri. The crash report—picked up by TMZ—says that the incident occurred at 9 PM when Bowyer’s 2019 Nissan Rogue hit the woman who was in the middle of the street. According to the report, Clint Bowyer contacted emergency services after hitting the brakes.

Medical services arrived on the scene and tried to treat the 47-year-old Mary Jane Simmons who died on the scene. The crash report states that Bowyer had a BAC of .000 at the time of the accident and had “no signs of impairment.” However, the police would find what was described as a “crystalline substance…believed to be methamphetamine” near the deceased’s belongings, according to the documents.
Locals who were investigated following the crash claim that she had been “under the influence of drugs.” The crash occurred hours after Clint Bowyer had done television analyst duties during a Madison, Illinois NASCAR Cup Series race. The accident would explain his absence from broadcasts afterward.
Bowyer addressed the accident in a statement:
“Anyone that knows me, knows that family is everything to me. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Ms. Simmons. This is a very difficult time for my family and I, please respect our privacy as we move forward.”
Fox Sports also released a brief statement that read “We are deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.”
