Ireland Baldwin has gone public with her story of being raped while ‘completely unconscious’ following the polarizing decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade, a court ruling that once allowed women to receive the right to abortion on a federal level.
A visibly emotional Ireland, who is the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, shared her traumatic experience on Tik Tok not long after the news broke of abortions only being allowed by states that choose to offer them.

“I am only now sharing my story because I want other women to feel supported and loved, whether they want to share their own story or not,” she began before going into detail about what she had endured. “I’m not here to tell this story today, but I was raped when I was a teenager, and I was completely unconscious when it happened, and it changed the course of the rest of my life.”
Ireland admitted that up until now she has mostly kept quiet about her experience, but she has felt compelled to come forward with the information in hopes of helping others who have been through similar trauma. “I never told anyone at the time, not for years. The only person who knew was a nurse that treated me shortly after. And I didn’t even tell my own boyfriend at the time. Not my parents.
No one.” She then explained that carrying the emotional burden of such a damaging event had sent her into a downward spiral, saying, “’I drank a lot more, I partied a lot more, I self-medicated. I was in other abusive and toxic relationships and friendships. I pretty much did everything I could to distract myself.”
In light of the courts limiting a woman’s ability to safely access her right to receive an abortion, Ireland makes note of the fact that she could have gotten pregnant during the forced encounter. She also reflected on what life could have been like for both her and the potential baby given her fragile mental state back then.
“Seeing so many other brave women share their stories, got me thinking what my life would have been like if I had become pregnant, and if I had to raise a baby during everything I was going through at the time.”
“Mind you, I have medical resources, money and support that a lot of women do not have access to. It would have simply been traumatizing and impossible,” she said. Ireland further revealed that she did elect to get an abortion after becoming pregnant while in a ‘very unhappy’ relationship. “Flash forward to another point in my life when I did have a boyfriend, and I did become pregnant.
At that point in time, I would say we were very unhappy together. And he made it clear that he never wanted kids or marriage. He barely wanted to be in a serious relationship. ‘I chose to get an abortion because I know exactly what it felt like to be born between two people who hated each other.”
“Could I have had that baby and put that baby up for adoption? Maybe. Maybe not. But choosing to raise a baby without my own financial security, without a loving and supportive partner, that wasn’t gonna work for me. I chose me, and I would choose me again. It’s your life, it’s your choice,” Ireland stated. Baldwin’s revelation received an onslaught of positive feedback from followers who thanked her for sharing her story and being so candid.
“Ireland, you continue to impress me with your authenticity. You are a brave woman for sharing in the hopes of helping others,” one commenter wrote, while another said, “Putting one’s story out in the world takes more strength than I could ever imagine. We must support and lift up all women.”
