British politician Nigel Farage blasted Prince Harry over his speech on Nelson Mandela International Day at the United Nations Headquarters, New York.
British Politician Nigel Farage Slams Prince Harry’s UN Speech-‘Never Had To Do A Day’s Work, Got A Private Jet, Now He’s Speaking About Poverty In Africa’
During the course of that process, Harry spoke on a variety of issues including poverty, disinformation and even went as far as touching on the US Supreme Court’s overruling of Roe v Wade.
While it did take courage to touch on such issues, especially since Harry is speaking from a position of privilege, the very fact of the matter is that this did not go down very well with Nigel. And he did not hold back on his condemnation for Harry.
In his comments, Farage said: “A man who has never had to do a day’s work in his life, who has got a private jet, who has got a big advance from Netflix.
“And now he’s [speaking about] poverty in Africa, isn’t that just marvellous.” Nevertheless, it is important to take those comments in light of the following factors.
First of all, there is no denying that Harry is speaking from a position of privilege. However, since leaving the Royal family in 2020, he has managed to become financially independent from them and generated income via his own means.
Secondly, if that is the yardstick that is going to be applied by Nigel, then this criticism could be directed towards Kate Middleton and Prince William.
The latter duo’s critics have pointed out the fact that they continue to live off the British taxpayer, something which recently came to the fore when the pair were slammed for their disastrous Royal Caribbean tour that cost the taxpayer over £200,000.
The response on social media was mixed. While people recognised that Harry’s comments may have appeared out of touch, others felt he had every right to speak his mind.
One person wrote: “He lives in the US with his family and has every right to weigh in on Supreme Court decisions that affect him & his family.”
