Prince George Will Never Be King-‘I Think It’s A Fair Prediction’
That is according to novelist Hilary Mantel. The influence of the Royal family is crumbling before our very eyes. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit in 2020 indicated that the institution was losing its influence.
In addition, Prince Andrew’s recent sexual assault scandal involving Virginia Giuffre damaged the monarchy even further. Not only that, but Prince Philip’s demise coupled with Queen Elizabeth’s poor health of late has led to Prince William and Kate Middleton taking on more royal duties.
And yet, the latter duo have hardly impressed. Their royal tour in the Caribbean was an absolute disaster, as their visit was accompanied by swathes of protests in the region.
Meanwhile, there was also criticism at home with the British public outraged by the cost that was in excess of £200,000. With that being said, things were looking bleak.
In her comments, Hilary said: “I think it’s a fair prediction, but let’s say I wouldn’t put money on it. It’s very hard to understand the thinking behind the monarchy in the modern world when people are just seen as celebrities.”
As a result, Hilary viewed William as potentially the last King of England. And if that is the case, he will have a lot on his plate. Ultimately, until he manages to come to a reconciliation with Prince Harry, this will tarnish his legacy.
Regardless of whether he manages to do just that, William is in a difficult position. Matthew Dennison, who happens to be a biographer, had this to say: “The future does rest on Prince William.
“And we all know that public opinion can be unkind.” No one knows how long the monarchy will last, but whoever does end up taking the throne after the Queen does have a huge task ahead of them.
