Elon Musk is the Tesla and SpaceX giant, with these two main companies being in the spotlight most of the time. However, recently, he reminds the public that he has another company involved in the underground, contrary to his other two that are focused on the earth’s surface and the space.
Traffic is a well-known problem for all people across the USA. Moreover, it is getting worse and worse over time. It is an inescapable condition in the areas where we have metropolitan cities or large growing industries. The traffic reaches its peak at given times of the day, as a result of ‘modern life’. Everybody owns a car, and everybody pursues some goals during the day. Goals that we can accomplish only with the help of a vehicle.
Elon Musk Is Digging Again – He Activates The Boring Company For A New Project
Furthermore, fueling this issue is the need for transport at the same time each day. The economy is set as such, that in order to function it requires people to attend work, starting and ending at the same time.
This happens because all companies strive to establish better communication and collaboration between them, in order to have the greatest benefits of that 8-hour working shift. The schools and the public institutions are not an exclusion. Children go to school at the same time, leave at the same time, and all public institutions such as banks have unified working hours.
Musk reveals the idea of opening the Boring Company back in 2016. His main goal with it is to manage to dig 30-foot wide tunnels all around the USA. To create a tunnel net that will connect all major cities in the states. The reason for this is the introduction of fast express ‘trains’ that will run from one point on the map on the East Coast to a point on the West Coast in a matter of a couple of hours.
The starting point for these infamous tunnels is below the SpaceX headquarters. Until now, the Boring Company project has one fruition, and that is the 1-mile-long tunnel in California. Or below California, should we say?
The tunnel undergoes tests and evaluations by experts back in 2020, and they happen to reach not so impressive results. They confirm that the idea behind this is very interesting and might be a great competition to the standard highways in the future when the complete net is created. But at the moment, they do not see this as something extraordinary.
We can expect the tunnels to get continuation in the next period. The company asked for and received permission to dig the Las Vegas underground. The information states that the tunnels will create a so-called “Vegas Loop” that will be spreading between the Las Vegas Strip, the Harry Reid international Airport Allegiant Stadium, and Downtown. In the near future, the company expects to continue the tunnels to the central area of Los Angeles.
“Tunnels minimize the usage of valuable surface land and do not conflict with existing transportation systems. A large network of tunnels can alleviate congestion in any city; no matter how large a city grows, more levels of tunnels can be added.” – the Boring Company executives state.
The “Vegas Loop” is not the only tunnel that is hinted to happen. As we all know, Musk strives to create a network connecting the whole territory of the United States. So is Las Vegas and Los Angeles will be the start, the next planned step is to dig below Colorado in Texas. The ‘Colorado River Connector Tunnel’ will be the pioneering highway tunnel on the East Coast. It will connect several main areas of Colorado with a tunnel loop beneath the city.
These two are the first two projects of the Boring Company that get official approval and according to Musk, this is the beginning of a new era in transport. Faster, safer, and shorter routes from one city to another will boost transport on a major scale.
While all futuristic movies and futuristic images of the earth include flying cars and jet vehicles, Elon dreams about going in the other direction. Musk expects that tunnels will end the traffic problems that the USA has in general. Overcrowded highways and roads will be the forgotten past. With this, the pollution of the air will be significantly lower, since ‘half’ of the traffic will be underground. Furthermore, the cars will be constantly moving due to the lowered traffic. Hence lowering the air pollution caused by ‘running in place’ while stuck in traffic.
“To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D. Which means we need either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight, and won’t fall on your head.” – The Boring company moto states.
Traffic in Los Angeles at peak hours is a total catastrophe. The LA citizens know this all too well. As a result, the city accepts Elon’s idea of creating a tunnel net below the city without hesitation. However, not everyone accepts the idea so eagerly. Some cities are not so sure that the tunnels will solve the traffic issue. But, if it proves to be bettering the traffic condition, then some of these cities might ‘flip’. They might follow in LA’s footsteps – accomplishing yet one more of the numerous dreams that the billionaire has.
Elon has been back-shelving the Boring Company for quite some time. He has been focusing on his other companies, due to good as well as bad situations. He is in a deal to buy Twitter, and he is facing numerous major reclamations in Tesla. In addition, he is busy helping Ukraine with providing internet connection to them.
The billionaire has his hands full of work, no doubt about it. But he might want to dedicate some time to the Boring Company as well. Since this, most of all of his companies might help the world the fastest.
