The first case of a child catching monkeypox in Florida has been reported. This report occurred in Martin County and is one of six cases, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Florida Reports First Case of Child Catching Monkeypox – Currently at 1,317 Cases
The child is said to be under the age of four but nothing else is available as far as how they are taking to treatment at such a young age. So far, Florida has been one of the hotbeds for monkeypox in the U.S with 1,317 reported.
Those living in Miami-Dade and Broward counties are at the most risk as 513 and 446 cases were reported respectively. In the Tampa Bay metro, Hillsborough County and Pinellas County top the list with 57 and 51 cases.
Both counties have large populations which will prove to be a task for the state’s health department if the battle with COVID-19 in these same counties is any indication.
News of the youngster contracting monkeypox came as the World Health Organization announced that the disease wouldn’t be named after the region it originated from for ethical reasons under its “current best practices”.
Currently, the two variants—Congo Basin variant and the West African variant—will be known as Clade I and Clade II variants.
