Although the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton and Prince William are hands-on parents to their kids, they also have a trusted nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who has been a part f the family since 9-year-old Prince George was only 8 months old. The nanny also helped raise 7-year-old Princess Charlotte and 4-year-old Prince Louis while living with the family at their Kensington Palace home.
All About The Royal Nanny
Now that the royal family are moving to Adelaide Cottage on Queen Elizabeth‘s Windsor estate, Maria is expected to live at another property because the new home has just four bedrooms. She would remain a caretaker for their kids. Maria was born in Spain and studied at U.K.’s Norland College – the first educational establishment to offer childcare training.

The students learn everything from child brain development to first aid to evasive driving techniques. She made her first public appearance after becoming a royal nanny when she joined the Duke and Duchess during their 2014 tour of New Zealand and Australia. She was caring for Prince Goerge while his parents took on their royal duties. She has since been joinign the family on their travels.
She is often spotted at many royal events like the Trooping the Colour, where she may be peeking out the Buckingham Palace window with the children, or royal weddings, keeping the young bridesmaids and page boys on their best royal behavior. Many may remember her from Princess Charlotte’s christening in 2015.
She was wearing her Norland College uniform, a brown dress with a bowler hat. On that day, she drew comparisons to the world’s most popular fictional nanny, Mary Poppins.
The college’s founder, Emily Ward — who established the school in 1892, introduced the uniform so that Norland Nurses would be recognized as professionals and “not mistaken for housemaids” as stated on the website. An insider previously told PEOPLE that “Maria loves the children dearly. She can be firm and strict, but she is very loving and soft with them too.” Maria also possesses the key skill of a modern royal nanny, which is the ability to always be present when needed but never to overstep.
According to the author of Raising Royalty, Carolyn Harris, “In the past, royal nannies were employed almost entirely on the basis of referrals from the extended royal family and British aristocracy. Today, royal nannies need to strike a delicate balance between providing care and emotional support for their charge while not being seen to interfere with the decision-making of royal parents.”
