Nancy Pelosi starts her Asia tour, but the people are intrigued by the absence of one of the initially mentioned countries in her places to visit list. As explained, the speaker of the USA’s House of Representatives will visit Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan. But where is Taiwan on the list? Why did they exclude it?
The world is expecting everything from everybody at this point. Following the disasters we’ve seen in the past period, there are only a handful of things that can catch the world off guard.
Nancy Pelosi Starts The Great Asia Tour – There Is No Mention Of Taiwan – Is The USA Afraid Of China’s Threats?
There were speculations that Nancy Pelosi will visit Taiwan, the self-ruled island near China. However, this falls into the water once the Chinese President warned of serious consequences if she goes there.
Taiwan enjoys USA’s support for many years, however, there has been no official US visit to Taiwan since 1997. That is for 25 years.
Pelosi had bragged about her World tour on Twitter. She said that she is happy to announce that accompanied by a six-member Congressional Delegation, she will “reaffirm America’s unshakeable commitment to its allies and friends”.
From Nancy’s office, they reveal that the speaker is to visit the ‘Indo-Pacific region’ including Singapore, Malaysia South Korea, and Japan.
Taiwan is a very sensitive country with a very unclear history. Furthermore, it is a place that is an interest to both China and the United States. China, however, has a much greater interest in it, since it is close to their borders. Moreover, they claim it to be theirs even after they requested to be a sovereign and independent country.
Taking all of the above in mind, as anyone would expect, China doesn’t react well when someone wants to increase their political influence on the island. Especially if that someone is in the United States of America. That’s the way they accept Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan as well.
Nanci Pelosi is someone who had been criticizing the Chinese government and the Chinese leadership in general for a long time. Most of all, the speaker criticizes the country’s human rights record.
The initial plans of the US government were to send the speaker to Taiwan back in April. However, this didn’t reach fruition because the speaker tested positive for the coronavirus and the visit was postponed.
She prepared the public and the government of China for her visit to Taiwan since long ago. She had been mentioning the China estranged country on several occasions until now with one goal – to provoke a response from the People’s Republic Of China. And she may have reached her goal several days ago.
Joe Biden has come out with a statement on the matter recently and supported the opinion of the American Army – that a visit to the island at the moment seems like not a great idea.
Even though the tour is said to focus on mutual security, economic partnership and growth, and democratic governance in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan is officially excluded from the tour.
Somewhere I saw graffiti showing the two countries’ flags with the American flag portrayed with fire erupting from it and China’s flag ‘spitting’ water to the fire. In my way of thinking it portrayed the way, the Americans see China’s position in the world. It is no secret that the United States is opposing China’s way of ruling and opposing the global expansion of China’s market. And how can they not? It is a major threat to the US economy. As China rises economically, in more of a figurative way the US and the world’s population remain with fewer and fewer jobs and less market to sell their products.
Another giant issue that arises here is the military strength of China. At the moment, China is in the top three countries with a disposition to a great military force. So avoiding any kind of conflict with them would be the right thing to do. To finalize, what would it mean for Taiwan if the USA backs off now and doesn’t send its officials to Taiwan?
Taiwan is a self-proclaimed independent country. However, since the very start of it, the USA has been supporting its independence through various politics. The USA is one of the greatest friends of Taiwan. Taiwan is greatly dependent on the US’s support for the question of their independence.
In order to proceed and finalize its independence, Taiwan needs the support of two main characters. The Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan and the US need to stand firm in their stance. It must be clear that they will support the Taiwanese people and will not back off from the supportive point. If one, or the other ‘chickens out’ Taiwan will lose not only what it had gained until now, but much more. If Nanci Pelosi doesn’t visit Taiwan now, this will be the first ‘chickening out’ of one of the main supports.
Allegedly, President Biden had a two-hour-long phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. They spoke about various topics, and Taiwan’s independence and the official visit were among them. The presidents mentioned Taiwan’s visit during the conversation. China’s president made it very clear that a visit to Taiwan at this point will be considered a major provocation.
The Chinese people know that the only way to ‘reason’ with the USA is through strength and actions. They will not accept any form of spoken agreement. They are not looking forward to starting any kind of negotiations for what they think is rightfully theirs.
China is a great military force, and furthermore a massive nuclear power. Avoiding any kind of conflict with such force is the one thing that should be taken into consideration.
