A Nebraska man was arrested after igniting two fires that took four lives in the town of Laurel, NE. Jason Jones (42) recently had his bond set at $5 million.
Nebraska Man Charged with 4 Arson-Related Murders in Laurel Has Bond Set at $5 MILLION
In the early morning hours of August 4, 2022, the Laurel Fire Department responded to a house fire and found a body in the remains. At that point, the Nebraska State Patrol was called in. While this scene was being handled, a second call came in about another fire.
The first fire occurred on the 200 block of Elm Street in the town of Laurel. This second fire was reported on the 500 block of the same street. After the second fire was tackled, first responders would discover three bodies.
In discussing their findings, the State Patrol pointed to gunfire being a major factor in the deaths. It was also noted that the fires were probably set before 3 AM as they were visible from outside for hours.
Jason Jones was arrested on August 5. Jones lived across from the first house and was confronted by SWAT the following morning. It was observed that he had some serious burns on his body. As a result, he was airlifted to Lincoln, NE where is receiving treatment and remains in serious condition.
Jones was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Michele Ebeling (53), Dana Twiford (55), Janet Twiford (85), and Gene Twiford (86). He was also given two counts of first-degree arson and four counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony, according to KTIV-TV.
A judge deemed the 42-year-old to be an “extreme danger to public safety” and set his bond at $5 million.
