The reviews for the WWE product since Triple H has taken over has been mostly positive as most agree the talent are being booked right and we’re seeing dominant performances from the ones we should like Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey.
It’s something that shouldn’t be a surprise as under his control NXT was considered the top WWE brand among fans and critics, but one of Hunter’s supporters is someone many may not have expected it from.
Tony Kahn Thinks WWE has Improved Under Triple H
AEW owner and President Tony Kahn appeared on DAZN to talk about his upcoming vision for AEW and where they’ve been.
They talked about various topics from dealing with the injuries that have ravaged the company and 2022 being their toughest year, though 2020 is in a different category for Tony, to WWE making millions off their TV deals.
Change is good
The discussion eventually got around to Hunter taking over WWE Creative and how it’s improved the product.
“Now the competition changing, I think that’s a good thing in some ways. If you like good wrestling, you’re just more likely to want to see it because our competitor has been doing better shows recently than they had been doing, I think.
“I watch them pretty often, and I think they’ve been better. It seems like that’s the consensus among people who watch them. I do think in general, if it’s gonna get more people watching wrestling, that’s probably not gonna hurt any wrestling company.
“And we stand to gain the most in many ways because if you’re a big wrestling fan, and if you’ve been away and you like good wrestling, you might be saying, ‘Where are Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson? CM Punk’s back?’
“So as we get to an exciting point of a lot of people coming back to the company, but a lot of new fans also, I think hopefully they want to embrace the new wrestlers in AEW and also a lot of the big names in AEW that you’ll be able to see on a regular basis, people that are on the show every week and have been going all summer like Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley.
“I think if you’re a fan of good wrestling, it’d be a great time to step back in and check it out because right now, there’s a lot of good wrestling on TV, including Wednesday’s on TBS and Fridays on TNT.”
Since the point of the interview was for Tony to praise and promote AEW, it’s not a surprise he got around to using the improving WWE to hype AEW.
While Tony using the word competition may not work for many, especially since AEW never went directly head to head with WWE’s Raw or Smackdown, we do agree an improving WWE is good for wrestling overall.
There are plenty of other options out there, and everyone will be focused on putting out the best product they can. The WWE is the top of the mountain and everyone will want to have that spot or at least share it, so the chase for the ring is always on
